Unit 3: The Enlightenment
YOU WILL WORK WITH A PARTNER on the FOLLOWING:
STEP 1: Go to GOOGLE DRIVE--> 1st Quarter--> UNIT 3--> CREATE a DOCUMENT name it Enlightened Despots
STEP 2: Click here to learn what a despot is.
STEP 3: Look at the image above (or here) and in your DOCUMENT Enlightened Despots, do a QUICK WRITE and explain the benefits of a political leader studying with an Enlightenment thinker. Why are they called "Enlightened Despots"?
STEP 4: Read the three Student Handouts 4.1-4.3*:
4.1: Frederick the Great 4.2: Catherine the Great 4.3: Joseph II
Document 4.4 is a Glossary. *Terms that appear in boldface in Student Handouts 4.1-4.3 are defined in the Glossary.
STEP 5: After you have read the documents, you and your partner will complete
Student Handout 4.5 Analyzing Primary Source Graphic Organizer.
You may download it and then type in the form. Then save it and upload it to your UNIT 3 FOLDER and name it Despot Graphic.
STEP 5: Using the information you have gathered, decide which of these rulers was the best, second best, and third best "Enlightened Despot." Then write on a post-it write explain your reason for selecting them first, second, and third best. Then post-it on the poster in the room for that ruler. (You may discuss with your partner, but you may come to different conclusions for this.)
Use RED post-its for 1st BEST
Use GREEN post-its for 2nd BEST
Use BLUE post-its for 3rd BEST
Be prepared to DISCUSS your findings in the WHOLE CLASS discussion
