1. Introduce your strength and weakness to your new group members and volunteer or vote for a conversation facilitator and a recorder.

2. Talk a little bit about your understanding of the academic life in college to share with your group. (You can draw your life experience to support your description.)

3. As a group, brainstorm and decide the aspects of academic life you want to research.

4. Proceed individual online research on the university in question. (Universities have well-developed website and you could often find links named as academics or studies to explore.)

Below are some of the cue questions you could ask yourself while doing research.
  • What is the academic strength of this university? (You should incorporate statistical evidence to support your findings.)
  • What are the learning and teaching methods in this university and how do they differ from your learning experience at home?
  • What are the academic resources available at this university? And how can you get access to them?
  • Is there an academic counseling service for international students like you? Do you think this service can address your problems and why?
5. After 20-minutes' research, confer with your group to evaluate your research approach and the validity of the information you found.

6. Start research again using some of the techniques your group members employ.

* Use a separate piece of paper to record your research.
