Gerhardt's Trip to Spain: A Global History Review

20120813100951PepeZ.jpg

Spain, since the removal of the Muslims in 1492, has been under the reign of Christian monarchs.  While the current King of Spain, Juan Carlos, is a mere figurehead, his early predecessors were some of the most powerful leaders in Europe.  During the 1500s, the Spanish royal family oversaw an absolute monarchy.  These photographs come from the Royal Palace in Spain's capital, Madrid.

Today the Royal Palace is home to a museum.  Photographs are not permitted inside.  Nonetheless, the outside of the Royal Palace still provides evidence of Spain's once absolute monarchy.

Task #6-

  • How does the Royal Palace in Madrid display the absolute power once held by the Spanish monarchs?
