What to do with the Reflective Journal:
The intention of the Assignments
of Your Choice is to give you greater flexibility in setting your own goals for
this class, and being able to choose the learning style and content that fits
your personality and interests most.
The aim of the Reflective
Journal is to make you aware of the learning that is happening and your own
progress. It will help you to make a conscious effort in studying hard and
trying to accomplish your own goals. I’m hoping for a lot of Aha!- moments,
when you figure out how things work. That can happen in the form of
understanding our global society better by following the news about Germany; or
it could be that one of the online exercises will explain a grammar point much
better than what you heard in the classroom. The Journal will also help you
track how much time you spent on this class, by writing it down. Of course, not
everything will run smoothly and some journal entries will be rather sobering,
but realizing that something isn’t working is also a step towards improving.
The Journal is also a tool for your instructor
to see how you progress, and if you put some serious work into your learning.
Therefore, please take the Journal seriously, because it’s the only prove you
have that you have done the work, and hence get points for your work. For every
step or week I expect one Journal entry (i.e. if you decide to do the
Videoecke, I expect 4 Journal entries; for the Media report I expect 10
entries).
