Ancient Roman Gladiators

Task #6 - Advertising

20120210111729Tuner.jpg

Imagine yourself the person in charge of advertising the games in Rome's Colosseum. Your job is to create an advertisement to promote the upcoming games. There are a number of ways you can do this:
  • Poster: create a well-crafted and informative poster.
  • Public Announcement: create either a video or live action announcement.

The idea is to try and create an ad that looks authentic, add appropriate pictures (hand-drawn) that advertises your event, and contains information that is based on fact and research. For example, you would NOT want to say admission is $10.00 because dollars (or any paper money) didn't exist back then.

Questions you should be asking yourself:

  • Who is the target audience for my ad?
  • What will I be advertising specifically?
  • What kind of slogan can I add that will get my message across?
  • What pictures can I add to help explain my ad?
  • Why is the event in my ad happening?
  • Who is invited to the event?
  • Where will the event take place?
  • When will the event take place?
  • How much will the event cost?
  • What will people see at the event?
  • Where would someone see your ad?

It has been difficult to find videos and weblinks for your Task. Maybe by watching some of these links you'll get some ideas:

    Advertising Tricks

You have a lot of freedom as to how you want to present your information, but the information itself needs to be historically accurate! The more creative...the better!

First, ask your group for guidance if you are unsure whether you are completing the assignment correctly. Second, ask your teacher to clarify any issues you have or materials you need.
