How Good is Great?

Introduction

racing.jpg

How do numbers measure greatness? How does a good batting average compare to a great batting average? What makes a quarterback great when throwing a football? How fast is really fast in track? How high is really high in high jumping? You are going to look at some statistics from across the sporting spectrum. You will be creating a presentation on sporting greatness using what we have learned in class about mean, median, and mode, range, and graphs. You will be in a group with three members. Together you must decide what sport and what records you want to investigate. Do you want to look at the top ten college quarterbacks in passing? Do you want to examine the top ten NBA players in making three pointers? You choose. Remember the field of sports can cover everything from horse racing to rowing to football to ping pong.
