Do you know what is Past Perfect? The past perfect is a verb tense used to talk about actions that were completed before some point in the past. For example:

  • I turned back to the house and saw that some someone named Tootles had defaced my front door!

Orange: Simple past

Yellow: Past perfect

Past Perfect Formula

Affirmative:

Subject + had + Verb [past participle] + Complement.

Negative:

Subject + had nor (hadn't) + Verb [past participle] + complement.

Questions:

Had + Subject + Verb [past participle] + complement + ?

Remember that: It doesn’t matter if the subject is singular or plural; the formula doesn’t change.
