Corporal Punishment

At least 19 states still practice corporal punishment in their school systems. The video attached below outlines the story of Trey Clayton. Trey describes how corporal punishment ruined his academic experience. Trey was paddled for talking in the library and insubordination, which caused him to spit out blood and loose some of his teeth. Trey did not finish the test he was taking and ended up failing the 8th grade. He never went back to school because of this incident. Trey’s experience with corporal punishment is summarized in the video below. It should be noted that:

• Corporal punishment is used in over 4,000 schools.
• More than 100,000 students are physically punished in a given year.
• Supporters of corporal punishment see it as an effective tool, but research suggest otherwise.
