The Force is not Just in Star Wars (lesson on photosynthesis, cellular respiration, the conservation of mass and the conservation of energy)

Introduction

There are two very important laws of physics that are critical to life in the universe. These two laws are the conservation of mass and the conservation of energy. You might think that it is strange that a lesson about biology is beginning with two laws of physics. The reason they are being discussed is to help you understand more about your place in the universe just like the character Rey asks Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.

Energy, specifically chemical energy is kind of like the Force, and in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”, Yoda describes the Force to Luke Skywalker as something that flows through you and ties everything together. In this lesson you will be like a young Padawan leaning the ways of the Force, or chemical energy, and how it flows everyone and everything on Earth.

In this part of your Padawan training, or lesson, you will learn what energy is, why we need it, and how living things get it. Before you set out on your training it is important to understand a couple of simple, but important laws of the universe. Once you have studied these laws you will be sent on a mission to discover the secrets of energy and cells obtain it and use it
