Energy in the Environment

Energy is the ability to do work.Energy exists in many different forms. Examples of theseare: light energy, heat energy, mechanical energy, gravitational energy, electrical energy, sound energy, chemical energy, nuclear or atomic energy andso on. These forms of energy can be transferred and transformed between oneanother. This is of immense benefit to us. For a source of energy to end up aselectricity it may undergo many transformations before it can power the lightbulb in your home. Although there are many specific types of energy, the twomajor forms are Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy. Energytransformation, also termed energy conversion, is the process ofchanging energy from one of its forms into another. In physics, energy is a quantity that provides the capacity toperform many actions—some as simple as lifting or warming an object.
