Between World War I and World War II (1919-1939) many nations suffered economically. The United States was faced with the Great Depression as well as Canada. Germany, Russia, France, England and Italy were dealing with the repercussions from WWI. During this time each country found their own way to deal with the new challenges. Political ideals became the primary focus for each country.

Political ideals include: Democracy, Dictatorships, Totalitarianism, Capitalism, Communism, Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism, Fascism, Left wing politics and Right wing politics. Each ideal has its own philosophy and reason behind them. What is the difference between them?
We are going to explore these ideals in the following unit. We are going to find out their differences, similarities, positives and negatives as well as learn about the people who championed them, how geography played a part and what caused these ideals in the first place.
This week you will become journalists in the year 1930. Each of you will choose one of the following countries to write an investigative article on: Canada, United States, France, England, Italy, Germany, Japan or Russia. Your article will cover your countries economy, leader, political ideology and location in the year 1930. In order to write this article you will need to investigate your countries history, circumstances, leadership and events that lead to the specific ideals your country has chosen to follow.
