Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is widely recognized as the healthiest feeding option for mothers and babies.  There are many benefits to both mom and baby.  There are initiatives in place currently that support breastfeeding as the exclusive means of nutrition for babies up to 6 months of age and then continuing to breastfeed with other supplementation up to 2 years of age and even longer.  As healthcare professionals, it is important that we are giving our patients and families the best information on breastfeeding and being a support to them so that they have the resources they need to successfully breastfeed their babies.  At the conclusion of this Webquest, you will be able to :

• Provide basic knowledge about breastfeeding to your patients
• Explain the benefits of breastfeeding with your patients
• Develop a list of resources on breastfeeding support for your patients
• Educate on complications regarding breastfeeding
• Apply your knowledge of breastfeeding in your clinical rotation by teaching a patient about breastfeeding
