An important goal for studying a foreign language according to the National Standards in Foreign Language Education Project is to better understand different cultures. Therefore, learning Chinese culture is crucial for international school students learning Chinese as a second language. According to the designed year 5 curricular topic of Activities, we explore how different culture influences students shape their daily activities.

During year 6, students will participate in a study trip to mainland of China and visit a local school. To prepare for the study trip, you have learnt Daily Activities over the first semester and have built basic language skills to understand the vocabulary and sentence structure for various daily activities.

Over the course of the second semester, you will consolidate what you have learnt in the first semester and will focus on learning about Chinese culture. This will enhance your intercultural competencies which you will apply during the study trip.
A questionnaire from the local school students about their daily activities is ready for you to study and analysis,  you need to compare your activities and theirs to find the common and different activities and analysing weather the different culture affects students to choose their activities.

Using WebQuest you will work in pairs to make a presentation to the class on the topic of about what the students activities from the local school are; what their activities are different to yours?  why are their activities differ? You should look at what things affect students in their choice of activities.  As individuals you will be required to write an essay about how culture influences students choose their daily activities.

The face-to-face WebQuest activity runs over the semester period. The pair presentation and individual essay will be due at the last month the semester. By the end of the semester, you will be able to:
1.  Read and understand your pen pals daily activities.
2.  Compare and contrast the activities about your activities with theirs
3.  Write a letter to tell your pen pal about you and your daily activities and ask them some questions that you are curious  about.
4. Gather the information that impact students choosing their activities and find the reasons of different culture students have different daily activates.
