It's all about you! Have you ever had a great idea for a story come to mind, but, you don't know how to put it into paper? Well, you're about to learn how!

Narrative Essays are essays that tell a story. There is a catch, however. Narrative essays need a purpose. They can teach a lesson, they can describe a situation, they can give information about a topic, or they can tell a story. The best part about narrative essays, however, is they they do not have to be written in the classic five paragraph form that you are accustomed to. We will now discuss what you need to know before you can get started!

1. Think of something to write about that will be entertaining, or teach a lesson, or to even inform your audience about something that you care about.
2. Your audience- You should know who you are writing to before you begin writing. If your audience is your classmates, then you could reference something that happened in your class in your essay. If your audience is a class of third graders, you will need to write in simpler words and write shorter sentences. Your audience is just as important as your story.
3. Your story should be in a logical order- Make sure that your audience knows that your story makes sense. If you are telling one part of a story, and then jump into a completely unrelated topic, the reader will not be able to understand.
4. Add Characters- Make up some characters to spice up your story! Make them talk too by adding dialogue!
5. Use prior knowledge of writing in your essay- Try to make sure your story is grammatically correct and has correct punctuation as well.
6. BE DESCRIPTIVE- A good story makes the audience visualize the situation. Use visual words and descriptive words to describe situations to the audience.
7. Have a purpose- Make sure your audience knows why you are writing your story and what you are writing it about.
8. IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU- Make sure what you are writing about is what YOU want to write about. This is a chance to increase your writing ability and to open your mind and your imagination
