The History of R&B Music

R&B,formally knows as Rhythm & Blues,were originated by African Americans in the 1940's. The term R&B has many different meanings that has changed over the years. It was originally used by record companies as a term to describe recordings marked predominantly towards African Americans. In the early 1950's, the term R&B was frequently applied to blues records. In the mid 1950's it started changing to electric blues, as well as gospel and soul music. In the 1970's the term grew to become a lot more funkier and upbeat. Every decade their seemed to be a new meaning towards R&B. In this day in time R&B can be linked towards vocalists such as Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Monica Brown, and Beyonce Knowles.
