Antebellum America: A Nation Divided

The Unites States was a nation in conflict during the time period from 1820-1860.  Slavery became a major issue that divided the North and South.  Factory workers in the North were also compared to slaves. What was the slave life like?  Who were these factory workers and how were they like slaves? Why didn't Congress just outlaw slavery?
