Welcome to the Hawaiian Islands, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Lush tropical rainforests, breathtaking waterfalls, and miles of pristine beaches make Hawaii a true paradise. But how were these island in the middle of the ocean formed?

This WebQuest will take you on a tour of the Hawaiian islands where you will learn how these islands were born. You will explore two different views about the creation of the Islands. The first stop will take you deep beneath the ocean to a hot spot under the Earth's crust. As the ocean floor moves over this hot spot, the Islands are born. On our second stop, you will hear the cultural stories that people have passed down from generation to generation. Here you will learn about the Hawaiian beliefs that gods created the Islands. Our last stop will take you to some famous landmarks on O'ahu. On this stop you will learn about the formation of these landmarks from both the scientific and cultural perspectives.
