Who was Christopher Columbus and what led him to the "New World?" Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy between August and October 1451. He rediscovered the New World as a result of wanting to find a sea route to the east. This  "sea route" to the east was not`the intended route that he set out to find but instead he came upon the Americas (The Caribbean).

Columbus was given three ships, The Santa Maria, The Nina and The Pinta, by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to set sail on his voyage. On his first voyage he rediscovered The Bahamas. On the second one he rediscovered Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica.
