Welcome to the world of poetry!

Every few years, the Poetry Foundation awards a poet the honor of being the Poet Laureate (for adults) or the Children's Poet Laureate (adults writing for children).  A Poet Laureate is a distinguished person who spreads their love of words to others and often is invited to share their poems at important  public events - like the president's inauguration, or the dedication of a government building or ceremonies honoring famous people.  Now the Poetry Foundation is searching for a Junior Poet Laureate.  One of the jobs will be to represent your school at an upcoming event.  As Junior Poet Laureate, you will share some of your fabulous poems.   This WebQuest will show you how to open poetry doors to inspire you to produce poems worthy of this honor.  So get ready to sharpen your pencils, fire up your imagination, and play with words  - the poems you write might make you the next Junior Poet Laureate!

Click the links in the resources below to learn more about the Poet Laureates.
