Gold. The most precious metal on Earth. Everyone wants it, but there is never enough for everyone, which is why it is so valuable.

On May 6, 1859, gold was discovered in the mountains of Colorado by John H. Gregory. What followed was one of the most important events in Colorado history. Before that date, Colorado was a wild frontier with very few settlements. The discovery of gold changed everything.

Through the magic of imagination, you are going to travel back in time to 1859 and join the search for gold. Some of you will strike it rich and others of you will just strike out. Throughout the next five days, you will gain an understanding of the conditions for the gold miners in 1859, why the gold rush was important then and why it is still important today, and gold's role in economics.

So saddle up your horses and head for the hills!
