The Honourable Duncan Gay, the Roads Minister for the state of New South Wales, has been briefed by the Premier, the Roads and Trafffic Authority (RTA) and the Police Commissioner, outlining the statistics related to young drivers and their involvement in motor vehicle accidents in the state of New South Wales.

The following statistics were included in the brief to the Minister:
Injury is the single biggest killer of Australian youth; more than all other causes combined
45 per cent of all young Australian injury deaths are due to road traffic crashes
Of all hospitalisations of young Australians, almost half are drivers involved in a road traffic crash and another quarter are passengers
Young drivers (17-25 years) represent one-quarter of all Australian road deaths, but are only 10-15% of the licensed driver population
A 17 year old driver with a P1 licence is four times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than a driver over 26 years
The biggest killer of young drivers is speeding and around 80 per cent of those killed are male (http://www.youngdriverfactbase.com/key-statistics/)

The statistics are clearly a concern for the him and as the newly appointed Minister of Roads he knows he needs to do something to change these figures dramatically.

The New South Wales Minister of Roads, the Honourable Duncan Gay, has chosen you to be part of a taskforce which will investigate and develop strategies to prevent and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities involving young drivers on New South Wales roads. The Minister has decided to divide the taskforce into several teams which will be responsible for a specific area of investigation. These areas will include young drivers, speeding, drink driving, driver fatigue and occupant restraints.
