DescriptionIn this lesson students will learn many health and exercise tips. During this lesson we will research the health and exercise topic. Each student will be placed in a group where there the students will work together to research this topic and prepare a presentation on health and exercise. Students will also participate in several activities that will give students the chance to actually do what they have been researching and learning about such as certain exercises. Students will also put together a food chart with the proper food you can eat in a good daily diet, they will have the chance to present their favorite food choices included in the food chart

Students will be assigned to groups at the start of this section. Their groups will create to different presentations one on exercise and one on healthy dieting. The students will create a week long exercise and proper diet routine. For this they will have to research the topics and create their own routine. Each day I will ask a group at a time to show me their progress and they can ask any questions they may have to help them achieve their goal of completing the assignment. On the last day on the week the students will present their project and answer any questions that classmates may have. At the end of this assignment the students will have learned how to properly set up a healthy exercise and diet routine.
The students will be broke up into two groups. Each group will be given the same suject of healthy dieting and exercise however each group will differ in that each group will come up with their own week long diet and exercise routine. Each group of students will be free to customize their routine however they like with the only stipulations being that the diet routine has to consist of foods off a food pyramid chart and that the diet is based on a 2000 calories a day diet. The exercise portion of the routine will have to consist of a progressive system of exercise meaning whatever plan they make up will have to be one that the students can build on to reach a set goal. Students will have the tools of the internet, books, magazine articles, etc to find the information needed to complete their routines. Students can also use clips of videos from youtube or other sites to demonstrate how certain exercises will be completed.
This assignment will be graded in three different areas. Each student in the group will get the grade deserved by the group. The groups will be graded on completion of the exercise routine, diet plan, and on the presentation of their assignment.
By the end of this assignment students will have learned how to make their own exercise and diet routine. Students will have learned through their research on how to better set up a routine and why it is important to have a daily exercise routine. Hopefully this assignment will spark an interest in healthy eating and exercise for the students and they will continue their research and participation in health and exercise
For teachers who are interested in a lesson like this one. For this lesson I think the most important thing is to also be a participant. For example, do your own research and come up with your own routine for students to see at the end of the assignment. This may help students see that not only they but their teacher and other adults are also using daily exercise and diet routines for their own benifit. Also make sure to be very enthusiastic about the assignment and show a interest in what each group of students is coming up with and encourage them daily.
