Group Projects: Students in groups of 2-3 students of varying learning levels can create WebQuests for a science or social studies project. For example, a student could choose to do a project on an animal such as sharks. That group would do research and create their own WebQuest based on sharks.

Reading and Writing Across Content Areas: Students read and write based upon the curriculum. For example, the social studies curriculum requires a unit on American symbols. One can do a read aloud with books about American symbols then assign their students to make a flip book about American symbols. If a curriculum has a unit on long ago vs. today, the students can read books about the past and write a story about themselves if they lived in that time era.

Differentiated Learning:

Journal Writing: Students journal on a book they are reading. This gives them the opportunity to write predictions, questions, and to summarize what they have read. This can be done at any learning level and helps all students increase reading comprehension and writing skills.

Think-Pair-Share: Students in a guided reading group (same reading levels) read the text, have time to record their thoughts, then share with their small group. This helps students organize their thoughts and to use new ideas.

Real-World Writing: Students create a website or pamphlet for a real-world experience. This gives students writing experience and connects them with real-world technology and situations.
