Evaluation

20120318054718eDaVu.jpg

See below for a description of what is required for the kind of grade you want. Note: a B grade means you have met all my expectations, so if you want to know what criteria I am looking for, look at the B-range descriptions (3rd column to the right).

Note: After this project is complete, there will be a final assessment in which you will use your notes (that you took on your group-mates' presentations and from your own research) to write out descriptive answers to 3 of the guiding questions from every topic.

Rubric

# D-level. Skills are below basic. C-level. Skills are very basic or developing. B-level. Skills are good. Meets expectations. A-level. Skills are advanced. Goes beyond expectations. Score
Research Notes Notes are sparse or rely heavily on source's wording. Much important information is left out. Notes sometimes rely on the source's wording, or notes look more like paragraphs than notes. Not all topics or questions are covered, or some irrelevant details are included. Notes are in own words and cover every topic / answer every guiding question. Notes are in own words, cover each topic in depth and are very well organized & neatly written. 10
Group Presentation Student's presentation gives little important information, and/or student reads directly from sources. Does not know or understand topic very well. Not every topic is covered or not all guiding questions are answered. Some important information is left out. Student reads some directly from his/her notes instead of using them as a guide. Every topic is covered / all guiding questions are answered. Student uses own notes to guide his/her presentation, but does not read straight from them. Student covers topics more in depth and clearly knows and understand the topic fully. 10
Notes on group-mates' presentations. Student is inattentive / does not participate. Notes are sparse or much is copied from presenter's own words. Student is not fully attentive or does not ask questions for clarification. Notes either on unimportant points or do not include all important points, or may be copying some of what the presenter is saying directly (not all in own words). Student listens attentively. Student's notes are in his/her own words (does not copy what presenter is saying) and are focused on the most important points. Student listens attentively and asks some questions. Notes are in own words and cover each topic, but only focuses on the most important points. 10
Visual Aides & Review Questions Visual aide is not relevant to the topic or presentation. 1-2 review questions which are either very basic or do not focus on important information. Only one visual aide. Visual aide may not be clear. Student does not refer to it (or does so minimally) during his/her presentation. Student gives only 3 or so review questions and they only check for basic comprehension of facts. 2-3 relevant visual aides included and are clear. Student uses these during his/her presentation. Student gives 4-5 review questions for group and check for basic comprehension of facts as well as how the information influences The Odyssey. 3+ relevant visual aides used. Student clearly uses these as references throughout his/her presentation. Review questions for group extend students' thinking into discussion. 10 (5 for visual aides, 5 for review questions)
