The one who does not remember history is bound to live through it again.

-George Santayana, 1863-1952, Spanish-American Philosopher and Writer

The events surrounding the Salem Witch Trials are among the most devastating in American history.  Twenty innocent people lost their lives, and many more lives were irreparably disrupted by the turmoil the trials created.  Consider the following the next time you hear a rumor about a person or a group of people, or witness someone speaking ill of another person:  before you join in and become a member of the crowd, stop and think.  Examine all the evidence.  Look for opposing viewpoints.  The only way we can make a difference in the world is if we *do* learn from our past mistakes.
