Consonant clusters or blends are the names given to two or three consonants that appear together in a word. Each consonant retains its sound when blended. The term cluster refers to the written form and the term blend refers to the spoken form. Hence Consonant blends are a collection of two or three different consonant sounds that are each heard when the word is pronounced. For example, let's look at the word "blanket." Both the letters "b" and "l" are consonants. When the word "blanket" is pronounced, you can clearly hear the sounds of both of these letters, making it a consonant blend.
