Magnetism

Magnetism is a force that attracts objects made from iron, steel, cobalt, or nickel.  They have a north and a south pole; the magnetic force is strongest at these points. A magnet can also attract or repel  other magnets. Two norths or two souths will repel, while one north and one south will be attracted. Think of the phrase, "opposites attract."

Static Electricity

This is created when certain materials rub together, creating an electrical charge. For example, it's created when you rub your feet across a carpet, then touch another person, doorknob, or anything of the like is touched. The explanation for this is, when you rub your feet across a carpet, the carpet builds up a static electrical charge on you, which then jumps from you to the object or person that is touched.
