Atoms, Elements, Compounds, and Molecules

A physical change occurs when one substance does not change into another substance and it keeps its same characteristics. Example: Crushing a soda can, melting an ice cube, and boiling water

A chemical change occurs when one substance turns into another substance and it does not keep its same characteristics.Example: Firewood burning into ash, cooking an egg, and baking a cake

To tell the difference between a chemical and physical change: Chemical changes show subtances changing colors and changing into another substance, while a physical change has the substance stay completely the same.
